I am always impressed with the hardscaping used at the DBG, which elevates the plants for better viewing. Very nice.
These are cute cactuses. They make me think of a basket of kittens or puppies. I believe they are Hedgehog Cactus. (I did not see a sign with their species name.)
Here's another one of those terrific artistic figures with holes in the sides just waiting for night to fall.
This is an interesting arrangement of various succulents. I was most intrigued by the tall cactus in the center.
This is Sharkskin Agave. I found this description online, "This elegant fast-grower is named for its uniformly spaced, leathery leaves that have the texture of shark skin. It is an admired agave growing from two to three feet tall and three to four feet wide."
In the foreground, we see Emory's Barrel Cactus. Funny story — this summer, a customer came into Lowe's Garden and said he wanted a Barrel Cactus. It seems the HOT, HOT Arizona sun cooked the one he had in his yard. And I thought Barrel Cactus was synonymous with "Arizona". I guess I was wrong.
Another Desert Rose plant. This one was huge with lots of leaves although I didn't see any flowers. WOW!
This is an interesting succulent. According to the sign, it is called "Stapilia". The rest reads, "Flies love stinky 'carrion' plants. Marbled red, the fleshy flower looks and smells like rotting meat to attract flies that then carry its pollen dust to the next flower."
These look like another patch of carrion plants without the flowers looking or smelling like rotten meat.
These bigger cactus look similar to Saguaro but I don't think they are a different species. There was no sign but my iPhone suggests it is Armatocereus laetus but does not list a common name.
Wow! A trio of Desert Rose plants, including one with beautiful red flowers. Cool.
Double Wow! Another of the artistic metal sculptures. I ready had a hard time waiting for night to fall.
To be continued... |
Life is good. |
