Last week, I shared some winter photos from Como Park in St. Paul, MN. Today, here are some summer photos from the same park. ![]() |
I guess some things never change — the folks with big money get the best spots overlooking the lake and the best houses from which to watch the sailboats. ![]() |
Heck, they probably also have the nicest sailboats moored on the lake. ![]() |
Too bad that I didn't know any of those rich folks then — it would have been great to go sailing with them. ![]() |
And here is one of the dock areas where those boats were tied up, waiting for their owners to appear. A friend of mine once suggested that there should be a law that if a boat is tied up at a dock after, say 10:00 am (and not specifically reserved by the owner) that anyone with sailing training and experience could borrow it for a minimal fee. I liked his way of thinking. ![]() |
This was a beautiful day for sailing and there were lots of boats out on the lake. I particularly like this boat tied up here — I think it looked like a homemade model. I recall a news article during those days about a would-be sailor who decided to build a sailboat in his basement. He did a great job except that he forgot to have a way to get the boat out of his basement — and he had to demolish a lot of his foundation to make a way out for his new favorite toy. ![]() |
This photo resembles Arizona lakes (except for the deciduous trees). Pontoon boats are really popular on our lakes (often reservoirs holding future drinking water). I've never been on one but it looks like fun too. ![]() |
Ah, someone is finally underway. This reminds me so much of when I lived in Rio Del Mar (Santa Cruz area) and took sailing lessons. It was great fun — I had an old salt of the sea giving me instructions. I even had to bring the boat into its berth in the dock area using just the power of the wind. I couldn't do that now — I would have to start with lesson #1 again. 😎 ![]() |
You might be surprised to learn that Lake Como has sand beaches. Especially curious for someone, like myself, who grew up going to ocean beaches. My grandmother lived less than 10 miles from Ocean City, MD and my family went there every summer — not just for the beach but also for the boardwalk and to spend time with our numerous relatives of all ages. ![]() |
Now what is cuter than young kids feeding the wildlife — in this case, ducks at the water's edge? ![]() |
Oh, here's a little girl sitting by herself on the hill leading down to the lake. She's pretty cute too. ![]() |
I absolutely love this photo of my friend and co-worker, John, and his daughter, Jennifer. Just like me, John is quite a bit older now (aren’t we all?). Jennifer is full-grown and just as smart as a whip. Also, she now lives here in the Phoenix area. ![]() |
The sun was setting — time for one last photo before the mosquitos make it inhabitable. Make sure you have your mosquito repellant applied! ![]() |
Life is good. |
