Hello Friends and Family,

Indian Market 2021, Part 3

I have shared photos of Tony Duncan and his family from previous Indian Markets. To refresh your memory, Tony is an award-winning musician and dancer. Here he was playing an Indian flute that he made himself — playing a haunting melody that I loved. Below, you can see him and his family performing traditional native dances. Note that Tony is a five-time World Champion Hoop Dancer — and his kids follow in their famous father's footsteps.

Here is Naiche, the only son in the family, performing a traditional dance. I am impressed, especially as he has matured considerably and definitely improved his skills.

Next is Mia, the youngest daughter. I remember her from three years ago — a tiny youngster who was just beginning to dance to the beat of the music. As kids do, she has grown so much both in stature and dancing ability. Note the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cutout on her scarf. Mixed cultures anyone?

Here we see the rest of the family — from left to right, Nitanis (eldest daughter), Manaya (middle daughter), and Violet (wife and mom). By the way, note the bells on the skirts worn by Manaya and Violet — they provide a wonderful jingle-jangle to the dance.

On this number, Mia and Nitanis pair up to entertain the attendees of the Indian Market.

With a change of pace, Nitanis is retelling a traditional story — quite captivating.

Next, we see a solo number by Violet. She is quite talented too — the whole family is.

Again we see Manaya and her jingle-jangle bells.

Here Manaya is performing a hoop dance where dancers integrate the hoops into the dance forming geometric figures and even animal shapes.

Mia has joined Manaya in her hoop dance routine. Very cute.

And perhaps you thought we forgot about Tony — no way. He has created an animal figure with an animated opening and closing of the mouth. I guess that it represents an alligator but I am no authority on such things.

Last, but certainly not least, the family all stands together to accept the applause for their performances. It was wonderful. And time to head to the fry bread stand for a culinary treat.

Life is good.

Aloha,
B. David
