Diamond Head Sepia

Diamond Head is the remains of the extinct volcano that dominates the vistas at one end of Waikiki. The ancient Hawaiians called it Laeahi meaning "brow of the tuna". The modern name comes from sailors who found crystals in the crater that they foolishly thought were diamonds. Visitors can hike the crater and see wonderful views of Waikiki in one direction and leeward O`ahu in the other.

Photographer's note: This is more than just a sepia-toned version of a modern photograph. I have worked diligently to remove any traces of contemporary civilization — by eliminating cars, power lines, newer buildings, etc. The goal was to craft a photo that would be very similar to one taken more than 100 years ago. I love the look and I hope you do too.
