Ka Lae

Ka Lae is also known as South Point and is the southernmost point of the 50 United States. This photo is remarkable that it captures the old and the new. The old is represented by the fishermen — Ka Lae is one of Hawai`i's most popular fishing spots due to the confluence of ocean currents just offshore. The new is represented by the wind farm in the distance — this is one of the windiest spots in the entire state — with sufficient generating capacity to provide 6% of the electricity required by the Big Island.
